Ladies and Gentlemen
Year 2009 has become the time of strengthening Cracow's city status as a leading music centre in Poland. It is like that thanks to many initiatives of the city and region authorities and cultural institutions as well, which main goal is to promote Cracow
and improving its position in a music world.
It is worth highlighting that two biggest musical institutions of Ma³opolska - Cracow Philharmony and Cracow Opera are financially
supported by Ma³opolska region. This support also resulted in fulfilling the project of designing and building new Opera building, which was eagerly awaited for fifty years.
Opera Rara was another event, sponsored by Ma³opolska region
authorities, based on presenting famous baroque operas to wide audience. Cracow is becoming a very important and strategic stop in many musical tournées of great ensembles, soloists, directors and other musical groups.

This is a totally new and refreshing
initiative for the city and the region, financially supported

I would like to draw you attention to an incredibly interesting project planned for October 2009 - International Royal Krakow Piano Festival.
Krakow is the city, which in the post war period used to be
a capital of Polish piano music. Gathering most of the outstanding
educators and boasting with many first prize winners of the international piano competitions like Frederic Chopin International
Piano Competition, Krakow is the best place to continue this piano tradition and to become a very important centre of piano music in the world. Krakow audience will have a chance to listen to the laureates of the most important competitions taking place in recent years and what is more to witness the performances of the mature and distinguished musicians.
International Royal Krakow Piano Festival will be also a part of the Chopin's Year 2009/2010 (160 Anniversary of the death of the composer, 200 Anniversary of his birthday), an additionally we will revere 200 years from Joseph Haydn's death.
I am convinced that the invited pianists will form unforgettable
artistic creations, which would place our Festival among prestigious European events. Established by me Piano Classic Association is an institution directed by my eminent graduates: Marian Sobula and Gajusz Kêska. Those acknowledged in an international arena pianist are at the same time PhD students of the Music Academy in Krakow. Piano Classic Association's main objective is to provide best organisation of this marvellous
event, awaited for many years in our city.
Expressing my full respect I am sending my best regards.
